Graduation Requirements

General Guidelines 

Central Florida Community School offers a structured curriculum which meets or exceeds guidelines for Orange County Public Schools. This curriculum is based on the Florida Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks and the Sunshine State Standards. Graduation requires successful completion of a specified total number of credits, which students shall earn in certain subject areas.

Specific requirements for graduation:

 

1. Students must meet attendance requirements in accordance with Florida Statute Section 230.22(2).

2. Graduation requires completion of a minimum of 24 academic credits in grades 9 through 12. The 24 credits shall be distributed as follows:

a.English                4 Credits

b.Mathematics          3 Credits. For students entering 9th grade in 1997-1998, and thereafter, successful completion of Algebra I or a series of courses equivalent to Algebra I (or a higher level mathematics course for those who mastered Algebra I prior to high school) is required.

c.Science                   3 Credits. Two of the science credits must include laboratory components.

d. American History  1 Credit

e. World History       1 Credit

f. Economics         0.5 Credit

g. American Government         0.5 Credit      

h. Performing Arts    1 Credits. Any course in music, dance, drama, painting, or sculpture may be used to satisfy the performing arts requirements.  A course in any art form, in addition to painting and sculpture, that requires manual dexterity or a course in speech or debate may be used to satisfy this requirement.  

i. Life Management Skills - 0.5 Credit                    

j. Physical Education  1 Credits (or 0.5 credit if the student entered 9th grade  prior to 1999-2000 school year).   Personal Fitness (1501300) will continue to be required and is the only option that may be used to satisfy graduation requirements for personal fitness.

k. Electives           8.5 Credits (or 9 if the student entered 9th grade prior to 1999-2000)

3. Grade Point Average. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in the courses, which make up the 24 required credits for graduation.
